This WebQuest “Weather Or Not?” was designed to introduce students to many different meteorological instruments.  After the WebQuest portion of this unit the students will be expected to complete one of four projects assessing their gained knowledge in the content of meteorological instruments.  They will play the role of an employee from the company Weather Or Not? (an imaginary meteorological tool company) having a choice of four job promotions. The jobs include:

Manufacturer: Create a working model of a meteorological instrument.

Graphic Designer: Design a brochure that displays a meteorological instrument, how it works, and why the product is superior.

Sales Representative: Create a PowerPoint presentation used to sell chosen instruments.  Including pictures of the instruments as well as the features that make the product superior.

Community Involvement Director:  Design a children's book that can be used to teach young children about the uses of some of the meteorological tools.

The students in my class are extremely familiar with the technical knowledge to complete the WebQuest portion of the assignment.  This is the second WebQuest that they have done this year in science, and have done WebQuests in both English and Math.  The computer lab at my school has a ratio of one computer to one student.  When I assign computers to the students I will take into consideration the student's ability.  The students will be paired so that they can assist their classmates at the surrounding computers.

A culminating activity for this unit will include a display day in which students, teachers, and administrators will be invited for participants to explain their projects.

Differentiated Learning
This WebQuest is a differentiated learning activity that differentiates by interest.  The students will be introduced to a variety of meteorological instruments.  When creating a project, the student is free to choose which project they would like to construct.  The student is given four different possible projects.  The student has the choice to create a project that compliments their strengths.

Multiple Intelligence's
This activity incorporates many of Gardener's multiple intelligences.  During the WebQuest portion of this activity, linguistic learners are given the opportunity to excel through reading and recording their gained knowledge.  When creating their projects, the students are given the opportunity to manufacture a product that caters to their talents.

When creating a tool, students will use the kinesthetic, logical/mathematical, and spatial intelligences.  Students who choose to make a brochure will use the kinesthetic, linguistic, and spatial intelligences. Students who choose to create a PowerPoint presentation will display the linguistic, spatial, and kinesthetic  intelligences.  Students who choose to create a children's book will also use the linguistic, spatial, and kinesthetic .

All students will be given an opportunity to demonstrate both the interpersonal and intrapersonal  intelligences.  When the student is preparing their project, they will have plenty of time to reflect on their work.  When the student displays their final product, they will demonstrate the interpersonal intelligence.
